Creator & Reviewer Terms

Effective date: 23 August 2026

These terms cover the free review copy we give to writers, reviewers and creators, and the press-kit material on our creators page. They sit on top of our Terms & Conditions and override them wherever the two disagree.

The short version. The copy is free and unconditional. You owe us no coverage, we do not get to see or approve what you write, and there is no embargo. Say what you actually think, including that it is bad.

1. What you get

We unlock the full app on the email address you applied with, for 30 days, at no charge. There is no card, no checkout, no licence key to enter and nothing to cancel — when the period ends, access simply stops. Running short near the end? Ask and we will extend it.

The review copy is personal to you and not transferable. It is not a subscription and does not become one.

2. What we do not ask for

This is the part that matters, so it is spelled out rather than implied. In exchange for the review copy:

You are not obliged to publish anything. Trying Deski and deciding it is not worth writing about is a perfectly good outcome.
We do not approve, review or see drafts. We will not ask to, and you should refuse if anyone claiming to speak for us does.
There is no embargo and no publication date to hit.
We have no editorial control. No talking points, no required phrasing, no minimum score, no link requirement.
A negative review costs you nothing. We will not withdraw access, refuse a future copy, or make a complaint to your platform because of what you concluded.

We have not paid you and will not, and the review copy is not conditional on coverage. If anyone offers you something on the condition that you write favourably about Deski, they are not acting for us — please tell us at [email protected].

3. Disclosure is yours to judge

If you do publish, whether and how you disclose that the copy was free is your call and your responsibility — your own editorial standards, your platform's rules and any advertising regulator that applies to you will have more to say about it than we do. We have no objection to you saying plainly that we gave you the app for nothing, because we did.

4. Screenshots, logo and name

You may use the screenshots, icon and brand assets on the creators page in editorial coverage of Deski — articles, videos, reviews, newsletters, posts — without asking us first. Two limits:

Do not alter the logo beyond resizing it, and do not use it as the icon or mark of your own product, channel or service.
Do not imply endorsement or partnership. Using the assets does not make you an affiliate, and does not mean we sponsored the piece.

Everything else about the app, the site and its content stays ours — see the intellectual-property section of the main Terms. Need an asset that is not on the page, or a screenshot with realistic data in it? Ask.

5. The facts on the press kit

The figures and claims on the creators page are accurate as at the effective date above, but Deski changes. Prices, limits and features can move, and the page can lag. Check anything load-bearing with us before you publish — we would much rather answer an email than see a wrong number in print. If you find something on the page that is already stale, tell us and we will fix it.

6. The build you get may be pre-release

Before launch, the copy we unlock is a beta build: unfinished software that can crash and can lose recorded time. The Beta Programme Terms apply to it as well, and it is worth reading them before you draw conclusions about stability. Please say which version you tested.

7. Access is revocable

We may end a review copy early, without notice or compensation — but, to be explicit, not because of what you wrote. In practice this covers sharing the access with other people, misrepresenting yourself to get it, or using the assets in a way section 4 does not allow.

What the main Terms still cover

Everything in the Terms & Conditions that is not contradicted above applies to review copies in full — in particular the Disclaimer of warranties, the Limitation of liability, Your data and responsibility, acceptable use, intellectual property, and governing law. The sections about subscription, trial, billing and refunds do not, because there is nothing to pay and no order to refund.

Our Privacy Policy applies unchanged. Your tracking data stays on your own device either way.
